Winners of the Business in the Arts Awards Announced

Four New Hampshire businesses and one business executive were named the winners of the Business in the Arts Awards 2000 on May 23 at a crowd of 400 business and arts leaders in Manchester.  Sponsored by the New Hampshire Business Committee for the Arts, the Awards are presented annually to recognize outstanding support of the arts. Winners, based on categories of company size, were judged by a peer panel as having made the most significant contributions to the arts of time, talent and advocacy.

Bank of New Hampshire; McLane, Graf, Raulerson & Middleton; Olde Port Bank, a division of Webster Bank; and Sitesurfer Publishing LLC were the award recipients. Each was recognized for a combination of financial sponsorships, employee involvement, special projects and/or donations of product and service.

The Leadership Award, created to honor exceptional leadership and commitment to arts advocacy by a business executive, was presented to Paul M. Montrone, chairman and chief executive officer of Fisher Scientific.

Following a performance by fiddler Rodney Miller and guitarist David Surette to recognize the traditions of the past, art and performances utilizing or primarily influenced by high technology highlighted New Hampshire's tradition of the future. Performers included the Concord Community Music School's Musicians of Wall Street, science fiction writer James Patrick Kelly, and RoboDance, a specially commissioned collaboration between FIRST Robotics and choreographer/dancer Kelly Doremus Stuart.

The award prizes were "Industrial Quilts" by Anne Marie Kenny.  "Technoscopes", table installation art, was created by Linda Randazzo for PC Connection, Inc. and on loan for the evening.

Corporate Sponsors of the Business in the Arts Awards 2000 were Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield; Bank of New Hampshire; Bell Atlantic; Citizens Bank; Ernst & Young; Fisher Scientific; Fleet Bank - NH; Jefferson Pilot Financial; Liberty Mutual Group; Markem Corporation; Public Service of New Hampshire; State Street Global Advisors; and Tyco International.
