WINNERS OF BUSINESS IN THE ARTS AWARDS ANNOUNCED AT GALA
Concord Hospital, Mascoma Savings Bank, Bresette + Company, and Atlantic Media were announced as the winners of the 2008 Business in the Arts Awards at a gala evening presentation by the New Hampshire Business Committee for the Arts on May 12 in Manchester. Patrick Duffy was named as the recipient of the Leadership Award. More than 350 guests were in attendance including the Governor and Dr. Lynch.
The winners were applauded for their outstanding support of the arts through sponsorships, staff involvement, project assistance and donated services to the arts in their communities and statewide.
Concord Hospital was highlighted for its extensive collection of visual art and use of performing arts in therapeutic care, commitment to local artists, and creating an overall environment that celebrates the role of the arts in healing. Mascoma Savings Bank received accolades for its support of a variety of arts organizations and of its leadership support of the extensive renovation and recreation of the AVA Gallery in Lebanon. Bresette + Company was cited for its creation of a marketing campaign and new design for the Seacoast Repertory Theatre including producing a web site, logo and brochure. Atlantic Media was cited for its promotion of the creative economy including in-kind promotions for The Music Hall, cultural exchanges and serving on boards of various cultural organizations.
Patrick Duffy was honored for his successful leading of the transformation and grand expansion of the Currier Museum of Art. Using his statewide contacts from an extensive background in business, government and civic and community affairs, he oversaw a 33,000 square foot expansion and a successful 21.4 million dollar capital campaign.
Virginia Prescott, host of the NH Public Radio show “Word of Mouth” was the master of ceremonies for the festivities. The evening’s performance showcase featured New Hampshire’s arts presence on the national stage with the Nashua Symphony Chorus, NH Poetry Slam Team, NH Theatre Project’s The Primary, Primary , and best-selling author and illustrator Tomie dePaola.
Each winner received a framed painting by nationally known New Hampshire artist Clifford Smith. In honor of its upcoming 75 th Annual Craftsmen Fair, the League of NH Craftsmen provided the table centerpieces. The ArtsBags Cultural Trivia Show highlighted the evening’s sponsors and contained cultural goodies of tickets, tee shirts, posters and books contributed by New Hampshire’s many cultural organizations and a grand prize of a two-night stay at the Mt. Washington Resort.
The Business in the Arts Awards Corporate Sponsors were Bank of America, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Clinic, FairPoint Communications, Lincoln Financial Group, Northeast Delta Dental, Ocean Bank, and Public Service of NH. Underwriters were Citizens Bank Foundation and TD Banknorth.
Event Supporters included Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in NH, Concord Hospital, Ernst & Young, Isaacson Structural Steel, Lavallee/Brensinger and Stibler Associates, McLane Law Firm, RMC Research Corporation and Sheehan Phinney Bass + Green.
