Leadership Arts Series Announced for 1999For Immediate ReleaseMay 12, 1999 Leadership Arts Series Announced for 1999 (Concord, NH) - Applications are being accepted for the 1999 Leadership Arts Series sponsored by the New Hampshire Business Committee for the Arts. Embarking on its fourth year, Leadership Arts is an arts focused training and development program for community leaders who are interested in taking a more active role in the arts. The program is open to those already serving an arts organization in a trustee role as well as those who have an interest in assuming placement on a board. It is also open to arts administrators. Leadership Arts curriculum will include topics practical in content as well as the broader, more philosophical implications of the arts. Several interactive arts sessions will provide a unique, hands-on perspective. According to NHBCA Chairman William T. Frain, Jr., president and COO of PSNH, "The success of any endeavor depends on the commitment of those involved. Learning to recognize that businesses and the arts share a common commitment to building strong, cultural communities is what the Leadership Arts Series is all about. The program brings together the state's business and arts leaders to share ideas and develop the blueprints that create the kind of communities that make New Hampshire such a special place to work and live. It is a comprehensive and important part of ensuring a well-rounded workforce as well as a business-savvy arts community. We are fortunate to have such a unique program in New Hampshire." Leadership Arts Past Leadership Arts participant Lorne Feinberg, associate in the Nashua law office of McLane, Graf, Raulerson and Middleton, "Our monthly meetings were a stimulating and entertaining opportunity for the participants to share insights into the role business leaders play in fostering the arts environment in New Hampshire. My first ever studio drawing class - with live model - was a mind-altering experience. Since 'graduation' the program has proved to be an ideal education for the challenges of serving on the board of directors of a thriving arts organization." As a result of his participation in the Leadership Arts Series, Feinberg was recently elected to the board of the Nashua Symphony Association. Leadership Arts participants will cultivate the skills necessary to assume leadership or placement responsibilities on the board of an arts organization, benefit from skill development and relationship building with other community business leaders, and learn about the latest developments in the arts thereby helping them become informed and effective arts advocates. This year, the Series will be completed in 5 full day sessions beginning in September. The topics include: State of the Arts; Arts and Education; Community and the Arts; Boards, Business and Funding; and Leadership: The Future. Classes will include panelists, guest speakers and experiential exercises. The deadline for applications is June 30. Space is limited.
