WINNERS OF BUSINESS IN THE ARTS AWARDS ANNOUNCEDBAE Systems, InnSeason Resorts, StoneHill Environmental, Inc. and Obsidian Design were announced as the winners of the 2005 Business in the Arts Awards at a gala evening presentation on May 25 in Manchester. Thomas Raffio was named the winner of the Leadership Award.
The winners were applauded for their outstanding support to the arts through their sponsorships, staff involvement, project assistance and donated services to the arts throughout the state.
BAE Systems was noted for its far-reaching impact and contributions to a diverse arts community; InnSeason Resorts for its partnership with the North County Center for the Arts; Stonehill Environmental for supporting its employees in their quest to develop two major cultural resources in the Seacoast region; and Obsidian Design for its work with small arts groups like New HampshireTheatre Project.
Thomas Raffio was named as the recipient of the Business in the Arts Leadership Award. Raffio was cited for setting a strong leadership example with his extensive involvement with many cultural groups over the years including the Capitol Center for the Arts, New Hampshire Symphony, the Palace Theatre and the Concord Community Music School.
Scott Spradling, news anchor for WMUR, was the Master of Ceremonies foR the festivities. The showcase of performers highlighting community arts included Skip Gorman performing music of the American west, poet John Perrault, two faculty solos from The Moving Company Dance Center and Songweavers women’s chorus.
Each winner received a framed piece by artist Lisa Grey of Portsmouth. The League of New Hampshire Craftsmen provided the table centerpiece displays. Peterboro Basket Company provided the baskets that held the ArtsBag Giveaway – cultural goodies of tickets, tee shirts, posters and books - that were awarded through a quiz show format hosted by Van McLeod, commissioner of New Hampshire’s Department of Cultural Resources. The ArtsBags highlighted the corporate sponsors and the presentation culminated with two tickets from Southwest Airlines.
The Business in the Arts Awards Corporate Sponsors were Bank of America; Bank of New Hampshire; Chicago-Soft Ltd; Citizens Bank; Jefferson Pilot Financial; MARKEM Corporation; Northeast Delta Dental; Ocean National Bank; Public Service of New Hampshire; RMC Research Corporation; and Verizon. The New Hampshire Business Committee for the Arts presents the awards annually to recognize and honor outstanding support of the arts.
