Business in the Arts Awards Winners 2010WINNERS OF BUSINESS IN THE ARTS AWARDS NAMED AT 26 TH GALA
NextEra Energy, RiverStone Resources, Persian Rug Galleries and Monadnock Living were announced as the winners of the Business in the Arts Awards at a gala evening presentation by the New Hampshire Business Committee for the Arts on May 17 in Manchester. More than 350 guests attended the 26 th annual celebration.
The winners were applauded for their outstanding support of the arts through sponsorships, staff involvement, project assistance and donated services to the arts in their communities and statewide.
NextEra Energy was lauded in particular for their planning and support of the Seacoast Repertory Theatre’s annual fund raiser and for assisting the Rep with securing the Mill Pond Center for expanded educational and performing arts programming. RiverStone Resources received accolades for making the arts a priority statewide, believing that the arts add to quality of life for their workforce and in particular for support of The MacDowell Colony’s Medal Day. Persian Rug Galleries was cited for their support of the New Hampshire Furniture Masters – sponsoring the annual auction, donating business space to host special events, arranging presentations to rotary clubs and offering business and marketing expertise. Monadnock Living was credited with raising awareness and support of art and culture in their region by hiring only local artists for writing projects and graphic design assistance as well as creating a focused appeal to their 18,000 readers that raised gifts of time, talent and funds to area arts organizations.
The Leadership Award was presented to Steve Duprey of Concord to honor his long time support of and vision for incorporating the arts into New Hampshire’s communities. He helped establish the Community Development Finance Authority and persuaded others to adopt policy that supported his belief that economic development in the state was vitally connected and directly linked to arts development. Organizations that he has worked with to ensure their success include the League of NH Craftsmen, Capitol Center for the Arts, Colonial Theatre in Keene, Red River Theatres, The Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce’s Creative Concord, CATCH Neighborhood Housing and the New Hampshire Art Association. In addition he has funded exhibitions at The Currier Museum of Art and maintains a personal art collection.
John Clayton, columnist for the Union Leader and author of several books, was the master of ceremonies for the festivities. The evening’s performance showcase featured the creative communities of New Hampshire and included fiddler Patrick Ross, Camerata New England, poet Alice B. Fogel, the Seacoast Repertory Theatre and the Acting Loft.
Each winner received a framed print photograph by New Hampshire photographer Sid Ceaser of Nashua. The League of NH Craftsmen provided the table centerpieces. The ArtsBags Cultural Trivia Show highlighted the evening’s sponsors and contained cultural goodies of tickets, tee shirts, posters and books contributed by New Hampshire’s many cultural organizations. The grand prize was donated by Wentworth-by-the-Sea.
Corporate sponsors were Bank of America, FairPoint Communications, Isaacson Structural Steel, Lincoln Financial Group, Northeast Delta Dental, Ocean Bank, a division of People’s United Bank, Public Service Company of NH, RiverStone Resources, and Winthrop Charitable Gift Fund. Underwriters were Citizens Bank Foundation and TD Charitable Foundation.
Event supporters included Anthem BCBS, Concord Hospital, Hitchiner Manufacturing, Lavallee Brensinger and Stibler Associates, McLane Law Firm and RMC Research Corporation. The New Hampshire Business Committee for the Arts presents the awards annually to recognize and honor outstanding business support of the arts.
