Richard Florida October 14 Visit Postponed(Concord, NH) - The New Hampshire Business Committee for the Arts has announced the postponement of a day of presentations and a keynote address by Dr. Richard Florida, author of the national best seller, The Rise of the Creative Class, originally scheduled for Tuesday, October 14, 2003. Florida must undergo emergency surgery and is unable to travel. He is expected to make a full recovery and will be rescheduling his visit.Joan Goshgarian, executive director of the New Hampshire Business Committee for the Arts made the announcement. "We are disappointed, certainly, but wish a full recovery to Dr. Florida and hope to be welcoming here in New Hampshire in January," she said. Florida's visit to New Hampshire was to include several working meetings in Portsmouth and Manchester to discuss his theory of the Creative Class, a group of people now comprising more than thirty percent of the entire workforce. Florida's theory asserts that in the future these workers will determine how the workplace is organized, what companies will prosper or go bankrupt, and even which cities will thrive or wither. The NHBCA was formed in 1985 to educate, motivate, and recognize business support of and participation in the arts, and has more than 70 business members.
