Winners for the Business In The Arts Awards Named

The winners of the Business in the Arts Awards 2001 were announced on May 8 in Manchester at a crowd of 400 business and arts leaders. Sponsored by the New Hampshire Business Committee for the Arts, the Awards are presented annually to recognize and honor outstanding support of the arts. The four winning companies and one business executive were selected by a peer panel from nominations submitted which highlighted businesses statewide for their significant contributions of time, talent and advocacy for the arts.

BAE SYSTEMS, Nashua; Ledyard National Bank, Hanover; The Tracey Edwards Company, Inc., Manchester; and 100 Market Group, Ltd., Portsmouth were the Award recipients. Each was cited for their specific achievements of support through a combination of financial sponsorships, encouragement of staff involvement, special initiated programs and donations of products to cultural organizations statewide.

The Leadership Award, created to honor exceptional leadership and commitment for a lifetime achievement of arts advocacy by a business executive, was presented to Dr. Sylvio Dupuis for his devotion, promotion, and steadfast leadership in his many professional and personal endeavors to ensure the continuing role of the arts.

The evening featured Tom Rush as Master of Ceremonies and encore performer. He hosted the other New Hampshire performance guests who illustrated the theme of art created and performed by members of New Hampshire's workforce. The amateurs, who continually strive for excellence in their own artistic pursuits, included performers from The Raylynmor Opera, Tom Burack, storyteller and the 80 member barbershop harmony group, The Nashua Granite Statesmen. Attorney and painter Robert M. Larsen created watercolors of Shaker windows as the award prizes.
